Sara Mertens is a Belgian comic artist and illustrator from Antwerp, whose work explores the boundary between dreams and reality, focusing on the fragility of human relationships. Her art has been published in various media, and she recently released her first short comic, “Arrondissement.” In this workshop, we will discuss and develop the concept of personal notebooks or diaries as comics. We will explore some beautiful examples, and then we’ll talk, write, and draw together.
What is special about comics? What do you want from a comic? When do you like a comic? Is it when you understand it? Or when it makes you think, or laugh, or cry a little? Can your everyday life be made into a comic? Can you show us?
The workshop is suitable for artists of all levels and lasts 1,5 hour. Please bring your favorite drawing supplies and a sketchbook if you have one. The workshop will be conducted in English with a maximum capacity of 15 participants.
